What Substance Abuse Treatment Does Aetna Insurance Cover?

Aetna insurance may be able to cover substance use disorder (SUD) treatment in the state of Florida. Depending on your plan, insurance may cover at least part of the cost of:

  • Detox – A professional detoxification program ensures that your body rids itself of the substance safely and as comfortably as possible.
  • Inpatient or Residential Treatment – In an inpatient or residential facility, an individual receives professional care for their substance use disorder (SUD) while living at the facility full time. These programs are beneficial for individuals with serious drug or alcohol dependencies.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) – An IOP is ideal for individuals who have caring home environments but would still benefit from intensive treatment and therapy. It involves individual and group therapy, as well as encouragement to participate in a 12-step or similar program. Intensive outpatient programs offer a higher level of care than a standard outpatient program.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) – A type of outpatient program, PHPs provide a high level of care but they do not require a patient to stay overnight. This program provides access to medical care as well as group or individual counseling. In general, individuals attend treatment for 4-6 hours a day, 3-5 days a week.

Does Aetna Florida Cover Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment?

Aetna may cover co-occurring disorder treatment in Florida under mental or behavioral health services. Depending on your level of coverage, mental health treatments may at least be partially covered.

If you have a co-occurring disorder, it is vital that you seek treatment that addresses your substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health condition together. Both Recovery First Treatment Center and River Oaks Treatment Center in Florida provide co-occurring treatment. Check your level of coverage with Aetna to find out exactly what is and what is not covered.
